Dr. Gaylord M. Couchman
Dr. Gaylord M. Couchman served as the President of the University of Dubuque from 1953-67. Before becoming president, he served as the pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Couchman was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree from UD in 1945. He is also the father of four UD graduates. During the "Couchman Years," enrollment grew from 500 to 900 and the endowment funds doubled. During the his time as president, there were eight new building projects and an expansion of McCormick Gymnasium.
