Cross Country - Track & Field
Peter Boyd (C'62) was a nine-time Iowa Conference Individual Champion and three-time Team Champion in Cross Country and Track. In Cross Country, he won each of the first three IIAC Championships including an IIAC record for the 3.0mile course that stood until fellow Spartan Terry McDonald broke the record. He is one of four IIAC student-athletes to win three or more individual titles. As a sophomore, Boyd let the Spartans to the team title at the first ever IIAC Cross Country Championships.
In track, Boyd won six individual IIAC titles and two team championships. From 1959 to 1962 he swept the 880 yard Dash while also winning the Mile as a freshman and the Mile Relay as a Junior in 1961. The Spartans won team titles in 1959 and 1961. Even 30 years after Boyd last ran for the Spartans he still holds the school record in the 800m Run and 1,500m Run.
