Robert Finnegan ('70)
Bob Finnegan was a standout student-athlete on the basketball court for the University of Dubuque from 1966-70. Finnegan was named Iowa Conference Men's Basketball MVP in 1968-69 and 1969-70 while also being named Little All-American as a senior. He was also selected First Team All-IIAC three straight years. Finnegan graduated as the UD Career Points Scored leader with 1,758 (a record he held for 16 years) and 472 Career Free Throws Made. The 1968-69 Spartans set a school record with 21 wins. UD finished with a record of 40-11 in Finnegan's final two years. He led the Spartans in scoring three straight seasons. He holds eight school records including points in a game (42), points in a season (668), points per game (26.8), field goals in a season (243), free throws in a season (192), and free throws in a game (23).
After graduation Finnegan went into teaching and coaching in his home state of Indiana, winning several conference titles. He later purchased an insurance company in Dillsboro, Indiana, where he still resides.
