Football - Track & Field

Theatrice E. Gibbs, a native of Dubuque, was a four-year letterwinner in track and football. He was a standout sprinter and relay runner in track where he left his mark at the University of Dubuque. For a period of time, he held the school record in the 100 yard dash. As a member of the half-mile relay team, his team placed twice at the Drake Relays. They placed third in 1937 and fourth in 1938. In addition to his running talents, he competed in the high jump and broad jump, and in 1936 he tied for first place at the Iowa Conference meet with a leap of 21' 1.0". He carried his running ability on to the football field. As a member of the football team in 1937, he finished fifth in the Iowa Conference in scoring with four touchdowns and 24 points. 

He was a member of the "D" Booster Club. In 1938, he graduated with a degree in physical education. Theatrice Gibbs died in 1967 in Rochester, N.Y.

He was inducted into the Dubuque Senior Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
