UD Book Club - August Meeting

The UD Book Club will meet on Thursday, August 21, from noon-1:00 in L109 to discuss the novel, Atonement, by Ian McEwan.

The book that inspired the blockbuster movie follows the life of Briony, who as a young girl "catches her sister in a passionate embrace with a childhood friend" and whose "jealousy drivers her to tell a lie that will irrevocably change the course of all their lives" (Amazon product description). The story touches on the issues of class, World War II, and, at it's heart, "the pleasures, pains, and dangers of writing, and perhaps even more, about the challenge of controlling what readers make of your writing" (Alan Stewart, Amazon.co.uk ).
