Spartan Assistant Dvorak, Coaches in the Caribbean

SAINT LUCIA, Lesser Antilles - The St. Lucia Athletics Association and Pole Vault St. Lucia welcome to their shores Peter Dvorak, a assistant track and field coach from the University of Dubuque, in Dubuque, Iowa. On Thursday August 9th, Dvorak spent his time conducting a Pole Vault clinic for the islands experienced and beginning at the George Odlum Stadium in Vieux Fort.

According to the President of the St.Lucia Athletic Association Cornelius Breen, Dvorak met with a young St. Lucian athlete in the U.S. and seeing the potential in young vaulters such as Pan-American Games qualifier, Rick Valcin, and four-time CARIFTA Games medalist, Shem Edwards, Coach Dvorak has long awaited this opportunity to bring his 17 years of coaching and competition experience to the youth on the island.

Meanwhile, Peter Dvorak begins his second year as an UD's Assistant Track & Field coach and first year as the Recruiting Coordinator for the Cross Country and Track programs. Primarily working with the pole vaulters, Coach Dvorak helped the vaulters find immediate success in his first year at UD. Under his watch, new school records were set in the men’s and women’s pole vault. He also coached one indoor and one outdoor All-IIAC performer.

Coach Dvorak draws on his 17 years of experience both as an athlete and coach. Prior to UD he spent six years as the Pole Vault coach at Madison East High School. In that time East broke six school records and had six vaulters qualify for the WIIA State Championship Meet with four earning medals.

Born and raised in Madison, Wis., Dvorak has a strong passion for the culinary arts with a background as a chef and manager in fine dining and owned his own cafe.

He currently holds a USATF - Level 1 Coaching Certification and is CPR/AED/First Aid certified by the American Red Cross.
