Bloedow Named IIAC Runner of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Buena Vista University women’s soccer player Kellyn Arnold and Simpson College football player Taylor Nelson have been named the IIAC Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, September 2. The Conference also announced fourteen Performers of the Week in the Conference’s eight sports in competition over the weekend.

Earning the first IIAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award was University of Dubuque senior Megan Bloedow (Gays Mills, Wis./Boscobel). Bloedow led the Spartans with a third place finish at the season opening UD Spartan Igniter. She finished the two mile race with a time of 12 minutes, 47 seconds. As a team the Spartans finished in second place.

Bloedow is the first UD women’s runner to earn the award since teammate Beth Michaelis won the award on October 3rd, 2010.

UP NEXT: The Spartan Cross Country teams will return to action on September 8th, when they run in the 41st Annual All-American Invitational at Luther College.
