McDonald Honored by Iowa Conference

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Luther College soccer playerCydney Haaland and Loras College soccer player Dan Figura have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 16th, 2012. The Conference also recognized 13 Performers of the Week across the league's eight fall championship sports.

Receiving the honor of Men’s Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week was University of Dubuque senior Nick McDonald (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove). The Spartans forward scored two goals and assisted on two others this week. Against former IIAC opponent Cornell, McDonald finished with a goal and two assists in the Spartans 7-0 victory. McDonald followed up his strong performance with the gamewinning goal in the Spartans 2-1 win against Elmhurst College.

For the season, McDonald is currently leading the Iowa Conference in points (16), goals (6), and game winning goals (2). He is also second in assists (4) and third in shot attempts (23). In 2011 he led the IIAC in points, goals, and shots on his way to being named First Team All-Iowa Conference and Second Team All-NSCAA All-Region.

It is the second time McDonald has been named IIAC Offensive Performer of the Week. He first received the honor as a sophomore during the 2010 season for the week ending October 17th.
