Iowa Conference Honors Watkins

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Wartburg College volleyball player Bailey Wilson and Coe College football player Jared McNutt have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. The Conference also recognized 14 Performers of the Week across the league's eight fall championship sports.
University of Dubuque junior Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) has been named Women’s Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week. The UD forward started the week off by scoring four goals in the Spartans 5-1 win over UW-Platteville which snapped a five game losing streak. Watkins also scored the lone Spartan goal in their 1-1 double overtime tie versus Central.
A two-time All-Iowa Conference performer, Watkins leads the Spartans with seven goals, 45 shots, and 21 shots on goal. As a freshman, Watkins was named the Female Athlete of the Week/Women’s Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week for her three goals during the week ending September 26, 2010.
