DeLass Named IIAC Defender of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Simpson College golfer Jennifer Gaffney and football player Taylor Nelson have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 7, 2012. The Conference also recognized a total of 14 Performers of the Week across the league's eight fall championship sports.

University of Dubuque senior Loisann DeLass (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hohenfels) was named Women’s Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week. DeLass recorded shutouts in both games this week.  She extended her streak of scoreless minutes in goal to 249:29. She made four saves vs. Monmouth and two more against Simpson.

In five games played this season, DeLass has allowed only two goals in 306:32 minutes in goal. As a starter she is 3-0-0 with two shutouts, 14 saves, and has not allowed a goal.

DeLass is the first Spartan to win the Defensive Performer of the Week Award since Ashley Barwick won the award on September 11, 2011.  The last UD goalkeeper to win the award was Natalie Baker on October 10, 2010.
