Spartans Retain Key in Key City Clash

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team retained the Key to the City after capturing the Key City Clash on Saturday by a 45-0 score.

The Spartans kept pressure on from the start and scored in every quarter while holding the league's leading rusher Loras' Nate Carrier to just 106 yards and a combined 265 yards for the Duhawks. UD scored in every red zone chance in the afternoon while the Spartan defense allowed just three fourth down conversions in the game. Anthony Losasso led UD with 10 tackles and Vincent Whipple finished with eight. Sophomore Lawrence Baldwin led both teams with two sacks for losses of 10 yards.

UD compiled 547 yards of offense and have 4,116 yards this season. Kyle Acker rushed for two touchdowns and 151 yards and caught a pass for 29 yards. Wyatt Hanus completed 27-141 passes for 344 yards and four Spartan touchdowns. Sean Anderson led the receiving corps with 120 yards on eight catches and was one of four different receivers to catch a touchdown. Miles Hookstead, Tyler Rutenbeck, and Lee Jones all caught a score. Special teams Heriberto Sandoval was perfect kicking all afternoon with six extra points and a 23 yard field goal. Sandoval has 49 points in 2012, 31-32 in extra points and 6-7 in field goals.

The Spartans finish their season at home on Chalmers Field next Saturday, Nov. 10 against the Buena Vista UNiversity Beavers with a kick-off slated for noon. BV enters the game on a four game win streak after collecting a win Saturday over the Simpson College Storm 29-27.
