CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that the Wartburg women's 1,600-meter relay of Kristin Canning, Karly Cochrane, Taylor Moore and Kendra Kregel and men's basketball player Mitchell Murphy have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 20, 2013. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in seven sports.

University of Dubuque senior Phillip Jones (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood) was named IIAC Men's Indoor Track and Field (Track) Performer of the Week. He is the second Spartan to win the award this season after Tyrone Galvin won last week. Jones finished first in the 60 Meter Dash at the UW-Whitewater: Karl Schlender Invitational with a time of 7.02. Through two weeks, his time is the fastest 60m in the IIAC and 20th in the Division III. During the opening week at the Sol Butler Classic, Jones ran a 7.01 55m Dash that is currently the 16th best time in DIII. Already the school record holder in the 55m Dash, Jones now sits third in the 60m Dash as well after his performance at UW-W.

Jones won the 55m Dash at the 2011 NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field National Championships. He is also a two time IIAC Champion, having won the 55m Dash in 2011 and was a member of the 4x200m Relay team that captured the title in 2010.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to UW-Stout for the Warren-Bowlus Open on January 26th.
