Spartans Headed to UW-Whitewater for NCAA DIII Championships

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team is headed to UW-Whitewater for a first round match-up with the defending NCAA Division III Champion Warhawks on Saturday, March 2nd. Game time is 3:00 pm. The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Championships by winning the Iowa Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon in front of a standing room only crowd of 2,375.

Dubuque (22-6) is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1990 and 5th overall. The Spartans are 4-4 all-time in the tournament. UW-Whitewater (23-4) earned the WIAC automatic bid by winning the postseason tournament after finishing second during the regular season. UW-W is making its 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

As a team, the Spartans own the Iowa Conferences top scoring defense at 61.4 points per game and top scoring margin at +9.6 points per game. UD also leads the league's in 3-Point Field Goal Percentage Defense (30.6%), Steals (199), and Turnover Margin per game (+2.07). Dubuque led the IIAC in home attendance with an average crowd of 1,073. UW-Whitewater led the WIAC in scoring offense at 70.7 points per game.

The winner of the UD/UW-W game will play the winner of North Central (IL) and Centre College on March 9th.
