Trio of Spartans Named All-Iowa Conference

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Luther College's Tyler Wedemeier has been selected as the 2012-2013 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Men's Basketball Most Valuable Player, headlining the 15-member All-Iowa Conference Teams. Luther’s John Androus was named IIAC Defensive Player of the year while Luther Head Coach Mark Franzen is the IIAC Coach of the Year. The Iowa Conference Tournament Champion UD Spartans placed three student-athletes on the All-IIAC team.
University of Dubuque junior Chris Frazier (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg American) was selected First Team All-Iowa Conference. Frazier leads a balanced Spartan scoring attack at 13.9 points per game placing him sixth in the IIAC. The sharp shooting guard leads the league with 73 three-point field goals made while also placing second in three-point fg percentage. He is also third in the conference in minutes played per game at 32.5. Frazier was named Honorable Mention in 2011-12.
UD has had a guard named First Team All-IIAC for seven straight years.

Dubuque junior Mitch Michaelis (LeClaire, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) was named Second Team All-IIAC. Michaelis is currently averaging 11.0 points per game which ranks him 15th in the IIAC. He is also shooting 81.2 % (82-101) from the free throw line. Michaelis is eighth in the IIAC with 28 steals and is one of six Spartans with over 20 steals. Michaelis was named Honorable Mention All-IIAC in 2011-12.
Joining Michaelis on the Second Team is freshman Andre Norris (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central). Norris is averaging 9.9 points per game overall and 10.9 in IIAC only games. He is the only freshman to make All-IIAC in 2012-13. Norris has made a huge impact off the bench for the Spartans on the defensive end of the court with 26 blocks to place him sixth in the league.
The IIAC Tournament Champion Spartans boast the league’s top scoring defense at 61.4 points per game and top scoring margin at +9.6 points per game. UD also leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense (30.6%), steals (199), and turnover margin per game (+2.07). Offensively the Spartans are second in the IIAC in field goal percentage (45.9%), rebounds per game (37.4), and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.11). UD leads the Iowa Conference in home attendance with an average of 1,073 people per game and a total home attendance of 12,880. The Spartans 22 wins this season is a new school record.
