Spartans Drop Pair on the Road

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Spartans men's tennis team fought a valiant effort on Saturday, but dropped a pair of Iowa Conference matches. UD fell 4-5 to the Simpson College Storm and lost to the Central College Dutch 2-7. 

In the Simpson match, UD captured #4 singles Dishon Deering, 6-3, 6-1, #5 singles Shawn Iben 2-6, 6-2, 1-6, and captured the #1 doublesDemetrius Johnson/Shawn Iben by a 9-8 (10-6) and #3 doubles of Nikolay Gospodinov/Michael Braden 8-3.

Against the Dutch, Demetrius Johnson won at #1 singles, defeating Kyle Freischlag 6-3, 6-2. Johnson teamed up with Shawn Iben (DBQMT) and defeated Kyle Freischlag/West Adelman (CENM) 8-6. UD falls to 3-13 overall and are still searching for their first Iowa Conference win after falling to 0-3. Nikolay Godspodinov leads UD in singles with a 10-9 record while the duo of Shawn Iben and Demetrius Johnson lead the doubles with a 5-6 mark.
