DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's tennis team lost their final regular season match of the year on Tuesday afternoon by a 0-9 score to the Luther College Norse. Despite the score, the match was much closer than it appears. The Spartans lost three singles matches in a third tie break set.

Nikolay Gospodinov captured the first set 6-4 at #2 singles before the Norse Torstein Jystad ralied back to capture the second set 6-2. He would hold court in the third tie break set 6-0 to capture the match for Luther.

Shawn Iben lost the opening set to Luther's Aaron Ford at #5 singles by a score of 5-7 before rallying back to take the second set 6-4. Iben jumped out to take an early lead in the third set before Ford captured the match with a 7-5 victory in the final set.

Trevor Calahan played a marathon match at #6 singles with Jason Knutson. Calahan, lost the first set 4-6 before taking the second set 6-4. The two battled a third set all the way to a 14-12 score in favor of the Norse's Knutson to hold the Spartans winless in the match.

It appears the Spartans will finish the conference season in a three way tie for the final qualifying spot for the 2013 IIAC Team Tournament held in Cedar Rapids. Fortunately for the Spartans they appear to hold the tie break over Simpson and Loras.
