Track and Field Headed to Drake Relays

DES MOINES, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Track & Field program will be represented at the 2013 Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee. On the women’s side, the 4x100 and 4x200 Relay teams will be completing. The Men’s 4x200 team will also be taking part in the 104th edition of America’s Athletic Classic. Nearly 8,000 track and field athletes will be competing in 111 events over the course of six days of competition beginning on Tuesday, April 23rd and ending Sunday, April 28th.

The Men’s 4x200m Relay team is Tyrone Galvin (Madison, Wis./Madison East), Andy Sierra (Fruitland, Iowa/Louisa-Muscatine), Phillip Jones (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood), and Payton Hanson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville). Individually, the Spartans own the third through sixth fastest times in the Iowa Conference with Hanson having the fastest time at 22.28 seconds. All four participants ran their fastest time of the season last weekend at the University of Dubuque Open.

Competing in both the 4x100m Relay and 4x200m Relay are Randi Bodish (Guttenberg, Iowa/Clayton Ridge), Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), and Jamyia Catchings (Pavle Forest, Ill./Bloom Trail). Nickolette McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) will run the third leg of the 4x100 while Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) will run third in the 4x200.

Highlighting the action inside Drake Stadium will be 13 London Games Rematches that will pit 2012 Olympic medalists and finalists against each in a rematch of last summer’s Olympic competition. In addition to bragging rights, those world-class athletes are also competing for a $50,000 purse in running events and a $25,000 purse in field events, both among the biggest purses offered in the world.
