Spartans Hold Wartburg Scoreless

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team sealed their entry into the 2013 Iowa Conference Tournament with a sweep of the Wartburg College Knights on Wednesday afternoon. UD held the Knights to just a pair of hits in the first game and won by a 4-0 score. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Spartans improved on their first game performance by allowing just one hit in game two, capturing the series with a 7-0 victory.

Senior Emily Michels became the all-time wins leader for the University of Dubuque by capturing the win in both games. She finished the day with nine strikeouts, allowed three hits and finished with an earned run average of .000. Senior day was led by a core of seniors: Shawna Dole finished the afternoon with four hits in six ats bats and scored six times. Susie Danielewski was 3-6 at the plate and earned two RBI's for her efforts. Danielewski has 19 RBI's which ranks second on the team behind teammate Amber Meyer who has 20 RBI's and a batting average of .435. Jessica Serd was 1-3 in game two including an RBI.

UD improved to 7-5 in the IIAC (4th place) and are now 15-15 overall. The Spartans travel to Cedar Rapids to face the league leader and #10-ranked Coe College Kohawks (29-5 overall, 10-2 in IIAC) on Saturday, April 27 with doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.

UD will return home to face the UW-Platteville Pioneers in a re-scheduled make-up date on Monday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m.
