Spartans Down Duhawks 10-9

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's lacrosse have been waiting for this to happen in their inaugural season of play... a victory. Their was plenty of reasons for the crowd on hand to celebrate at the Rock Bowl on Thursday night as the Spartans captured a victory in exciting fashion over the Loras College Duhawks by a 10-9 margin. The winning goal was scored with 2:32 left of the contest by the Spartans' Judy Borah.

Borah would finish the night scoring eight goals, a new school record for goals in a game and helped the Spartans to finish with their highest total of goals in a game with 10. Bridget Schirmers and teammate Bianca Diaz both added goals in the second half of action. The Spartans trailed early in the contest 1-4 before collecting two goals just prior to halftime to cut the Duhawk lead to 4-3. Borah would break lose from the defense in the second half of play to score six goals. She leads her team with 26 goals and six assists. SHe has a shot percentage of 40% and a shot on goals percentage of 72.3%. Goalkeeper Dionna Atwood garnered the victory after stopping seven Duhawk shots on goal. She has 108 saves in 2013.

UD forced the Duhawks into committing 20 turnovers for the evening. This season the Spartans attempted 119 shots, scored 41 goals, and have an overall record of 1-10.
