Spartans Dominate Men’s 100m Dash

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams competed at the Loras Open on Saturday. UD finished 1-2-3 in the Men’s 100m Dash with Corey Broussard (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) winning. The women’s 4x200m Relay team took second place. No team scores were recorded.

Broussard posted the fasted 100m time in the prelims at 11.02 seconds and went on to win the finals in 11.05 seconds. Philip Jones (South Holland, Ill./Thornwood) took second in the finals after qualifying sixth. Tyrone Galvin (Madison, Wis./Madison East) was third in the finals. Broussard, Jones, and Galvin teamed up with Payton Hanson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville) to take second in the 4x100m Relay.

Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) won the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.01 seconds. He improved his time by a half second compared to the prelims.

The Spartans finished first and second in the long jump with Galvin winning jump of 22’ 3.5”. Christopher Watson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) took second in the long jump and high jump. Antwone Lindsay (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) recorded the longest triple jump in the Iowa Conference the season on his way to a runner-up finish.

Freshman Kim Trinco (Schaumberg, Ill./JB Conant) was the top performer on the women’s team with two second place finishes. Trinco took second in the 400m Dash and ran the final leg of the 4x400m Relay that took second. Joining Trinco on the runner-up 4x400m Relay team were Rachel Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski), Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), and Kelley Hauber (Ridgeway, Iowa/South Winn.) as they finished with a season best time of 4:04.16.

Nikki McKenzie (Hoffman Estates, Ill./William Fremd) took second in the triple jump for the second straight week after a runner-up finish at the UD Open last week.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will head to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take part in the University of Northern Iowa Messersmith Invitational on Friday, May 3 at the Mark Messersmith Outdoor Track and Field Complex. Field events begin at 11:00 am followed by running events at 1:00 pm.
