Meyer Named NFCA All-Region

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY - University of Dubuque junior Amber Meyer (Cascade, Iowa/Cascade) was selected Third Team All-Midwest Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Meyer, a First Team All-Iowa Conference selection, led the Spartans in hits, runs, RBI, home runs, total bases, walks, steals, batting average, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. UD finished the season with an overall record of 16-18 while advancing to the semifinals of the IIAC Tournament.

Meyer, an At-Large selection, led the IIAC with an on-base percentage of .518. She also finished second in walks (21) and tied for fifth in batting average (.409). Nationally, she finished 42nd in Division III with .63 walks per game and 64th in on base percenteage at .518. Meyer led the Spartans in batting average (.409), slugging percentage (.624), on-base percentage (.518), runs (25), hits (38), runs batted in (22), home runs (5), total bases (58), walks (21), and stolen bases (8). She was also one of only three Spartans to start all 34 games this season and has started 109 consecutive games.

The 2013 Spartans were ranked regionally for the first time in school history as they came in at #8 in the final regular season NCAA regional rankings. UD proved they belonged by upsetting #5 regionally ranked Simpson in the opening round of the IIAC Tournament. The Spartans victory over Simpson was the first IIAC Tournament win in UD Softball history. Meyer is the first Spartan to earn All-Region since 1997 when Tina Felderman (1st Team), Jen Corwin (At-Large), and Sara Gassmann (At-Large) all made it.
