Iben Named First Team Academic All-District

DUBUQUE, IOWA – University of Dubuque Men’s Tennis student-athlete Shawn Iben (Clinton, Iowa/Camanche) has been named Division III First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large Team. First Team honorees advance to the All-American ballot where first, second, and third team All-Americans will be selected and announced on June 4th. Iben was recently named the Spartan Academic Athlete Excellence Award winner for having the highest cumulative GPA among all UD senior student-athletes.

Iben finished the 2012-13 season with 13 overall wins. He finished the year with a 3-3 record at #2 doubles while also picking up two wins at #1 doubles. In singles action, Iben went 6-10 at #5 and 1-0 at #4.

The Spartans finished the 2012-13 season with a 3-18 record. As a freshman during the 2009-10 season, Iben was a member of the team that set a school record with 16 overall wins.

Iben, a senior Computer Information Systems and Business Admin double major graduated with a grade point average of 3.89.

Sports eligible for the At-Large Team are: Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Rifle, Skiing, Swimming, Tennis, Men’s Volleyball, Water Polo, and Wrestling.
