NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships Results

LA CROSSE, WISCONSIN – The University of Dubuque Track & Field teams concluded the 2013 outdoor season with two qualifiers in the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships on Friday afternoon. On the track, Corey Broussard (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) finished with a time of 10.94 seconds in the 100m Dash. In field events, Christopher Watson (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) completed his day with a final High Jump height of 6’-4.75” (1.95m).
"I am proud of Corey and C.J. for the body of work and performances they executed throughout the year," said head coach Chad Gunnelson. "We are disappointed with the outcome today, but happy with the way they prepared themselves."
The day started off on a high note for Watson as he cleared 6’-2.75” (1.90m) on his first try and 6’-4.75” (1.95m) on the second attempt. He was unsuccessful at 6’-6.75” (2.00m) after three attempts to finish in 18th place overall. Watson was named All-IIAC during the Iowa Conference Championships in the high jump and long jump. He currently sits fourth in the high jump career all-time rankings at UD with a personal best jump of 6’-8.0” at the Univ. of Dubuque Open and UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meets.
Broussard placed 18th overall and finished sixth of seven runners in the third heat. The top-10 finishers advanced to the finals with places 8-9-10 all running a time of 10.77 in the prelims. Broussard completed his freshman season as the IIAC Champion in the 100m dash while also running the sixth fastest time in school history at :10.73 seconds at the 2013 Iowa Conference Outfoor Championships and at the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meets.
"I was pleased with how Corey and C.J. carried themselves over the last two days as underclassmen and as first time NCAA national qualifiers," added Coach Gunnelson. "They have both learned some valuable lessons from this experience that they can carry into next season. Now it's time to rest, recover, and prepare for another good year."
