Spartans Track & Field Competes at UW Red and White Open

The University of Dubuque Track and Field teams competed in the Wisconsin Red and White Open on Friday, February 15. The Spartans men’s team won three events while the women’s team had two second place finishes.

The University of Dubuque Wrestling team honored UD alumnus Jim Fox with the 2013 Jim Fox Open on February 16th. The Spartans crowned three champions including Andrew Burr (133 lbs), Adrian Collier (141 lbs), and Kyle Fredette (285 lbs).
Spartans Beat Loras on Senior Day

The University of Dubuque Women’s Basketball team earned the three seed in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament with a 60-51 win over Loras College on Saturday afternoon inside Stoltz Sports Center. UD shot 57.1% (12-21) from the field in the second half to break a 23-23 tie at halftime.

The University of Dubuque captured their 19th win of the season en route to an easy victory at home in front of a vocal capacity crowd in Stoltz Sports Center over the Loras Duhawks with a 67-52 victory.

The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team treated all 875 people in attendance to a thrilling game against Luther College on Tuesday night. The Spartans and Norse needed overtime to finally decide a winner in the contest with UD outscoring Luther 17-11 in OT to go on to win 80-74.

Spartans Host IIAC Men's Basketball Tournament Championship

The University of Dubuque men's basketball team learned late Friday night, they would be hosting the 2013 IIAC Tournament Championship for the first time in school history. The #3-seeded Spartans upset #2-seeded Buena Vista in Storm Lake by a score of 64-61. UD swept the BVU Beavers during both contests in Storm Lake this season.

The University of Dubuque men's basketball captured it's first Iowa Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday, Feb. 24 in front of the largest crowd the Spartans have played in front of in Stoltz Sports Center since it's renovation. UD trailed by six points to the Wartburg College Knights in the opening half 27-33. The Spartans turned the scoring on and out scored the Knights in the second half 46-27 to capture the contest 73-60.

The University of Dubuque Track & Field program spent the weekend of February 23rd and 24th hosting the 2013 Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on A.Y. McDonald Track inside the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. The men’s team finished with an all-time UD best 107 points in route to a third place finish. The Dubuque women’s team scored 38.5 points and finished in sixth place, the best finish in school history.

The University of Dubuque Softball team began the 2013 season on the road at the Finlandia Dome Tournament. UD opened the season on Saturday, February 23rd with a season opening loss to Carroll University before rallying in the second game to beat UW-Superior. Dubuque went 0-2 on February 24th with losses to UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls to finish the road trip with a 1-3 record.

The University of Dubuque Women’s Basketball teams run towards an Iowa Conference Tournament Championship came to an end on Sunday night with a 79-68 loss at #12 Simpson College (25-2). Senior Mollie Whiting set school records for points in a season (667) and points in a career (1737). As a team, UD also set a new school record with 340 steals. UD finishes the 2012-13 season with a 20-8 record.
Hookstead Named IIAC Performer of the Week

University of Dubuque senior Miles Hookstead has been named IIAC Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week. Hookstead helped the Spartans to their first Iowa Conference Tournament Championship with his first double-double of the year against Wartburg.

The University of Dubuque men’s team finished with an all-time UD best 107 points in route to a third place finish. The Dubuque women’s team scored 38.5 points and finished in sixth place, the best finish in school history. The Wartburg College women and Central College men took home the team titles. The IIAC Indoor Championships began in 2003.

Spartans Headed to UW-Whitewater for NCAA DIII Championships

The University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball team is headed to UW-Whitewater for a first round match-up with the defending NCAA Division III Champion Warhawks on Saturday, March 2nd. Game time is 3:00 pm. The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Championships by winning the Iowa Conference Tournament.
