Women's Tennis Earns 2013 ITA All-Academic Team Award

DUBUQUE, IOWA – The University of Dubuque Women’s Tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. The Spartans were one of 82 teams to earn the award on the women’s side for the 2012-13 academic year. In addition, two Spartan student-athletes earned the honor of ITA Scholar-Athlete. The UD Men's Tennis team joined the women's team to become the only Iowa Conference school to place both teams on the ITA All-Academic team list.

Sophomore Stephanie LoCasto (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) and freshman Alexandra Dixon (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) each earned the honor of being named ITA Scholar-Athlete. During the 2012-13 season, LoCasto tied the school record with seven wins during doubles action to go along with a second place finish in Flight “C” Singles at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships. LoCasto, an Environmental Science major with a 3.98 GPA, was also named First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Dixon put together a strong freshman campaign with a combined 18 wins including tying the school record with seven doubles victories. Dixon finished in third place of Flight “C” Singles at the Iowa Conference Individual Championships. She also finished with a team high 11 singles wins including a 4-1 record in tournament action.

The Spartans open the 2013-14 season at home as they host the UD Fun Doubles Tournament on August 24th.

The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale). To be included in the team GPA, a student-athlete must have competed in one or more varsity matches. The GPA is calculated for the current academic year (Fall-2012 and Spring-2013).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
