UD Men's Soccer Loses in Double Overtime

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team left everything they had on the field in a double overtime loss on Friday night. The 3-2 loss to Augsburg College came with temperatures nearing 100 degree during the game. UD led 2-0 late in the match before Augsburg scored two goals during a six minute span that forced overtime. 

The Spartans first goal of the night came came on an Own Goal during the 33rd minute of the first period. UD would go into halftime with a 1-0 lead while holding a 7-3 advantage in shots. Sophomore Daniel Morris (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg) would give Dubuque a 2-0 lead with his unassisted goal at the 76:19 mark of the second half. 

Augsburg would score goals in the 83rd and 89th minute to force overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, Augsburg scored just under five minutes into the second overtime to earn the victory. 

Gonzalo Hernandez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Internacional Kolbe) finished with a team high four shots off the bench for the Spartans. 

Jake O'Rourke (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gormon) held Augsburg scoreless during the first half before being relieved by Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood), who played the second period and all of overtime. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans will face the University of St. Thomas (0-1) on Saturday, August 31st at 5:00 pm as UD finishes up its two day trip to Minneapolis.
