Spartans Ranked 10th in NSCAA Women's Soccer North Region Poll

Sep 3, 2013 | J.Crane

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – The University of Dubuque Women’s Soccer team was ranked tenth in the initial National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III North Region Poll. The Spartans are currently 2-0 on the season and have won 10 of their last 12 games dating back to last season.

The play of forwards Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) is a major reason for the Spartans success. After two games, the duo has scored all four UD goals and recorded three assists. Watkins six-point week (two goals, two assists) moved her into fifth place all-time at UD for career points.

Through two games, Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) has allowed only one goal while stopping nine shots on goal for a .900 save percentage.  Duncan returned to the lineup with a shutout against Grinnell to open the season after missing the 2012 season because of injury.

Another factor in the Spartans goal prevention is the experience of defenders Lauren Waddell (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere), Melissa Sawyer (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), and Kelsey Graefen (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central). All juniors, the three have started a combined total of 104 games at UD.

UP NEXT: The Spartans return to action on Friday, September 6th vs. Lawrence University (0-0) on Oyen Field at 4:00 pm. UD will also be at home on Sunday, September 8th vs. Marian University.
