Spartans Drop Pair on Road

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped a pair of road contests on Wednesday night. UD opened with Edgewood College and lost 0-3 (19-25, 14-25, 24-26) before facing the hosts UW-Oshkosh and losing 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 14-25).

Edgewood held UD's kill leader, Klaudia Basierak in check and limited her to 25 kill attempts. She would finish with seven kills in the loss. The Spartans hitting percentage was .141. Hannah Zeiser finished the match with 11 set assists and two service aces.

In the second match of the evening, the host UW-OShkosh brought a strong force at the net and finished with 8.5 blocks.  UW-Oshkosh scored eight straight points take an 18-8 lead in first set over the Spartans. The Spartans jumped out early and led 19-15 before UW-Oshkosh ended the second set with 10 straight points to capture the set over UD. UW-Oshkosh jumped out in the third set 22-9 en route to taking the match 3-0. Basierak led with six kills. Amy Tranel served up three aces and Becca Thiltgen had seven defensive digs in the loss.

UD will continue the road schedule when they face the Cornell College Rams in Mount Vernon, Iowa on Sept. 6. Varsity match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
