Spartans Lose Third Sets and Match

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team began Saturday morning with a sweep of doubles winning #2 and #3 doubles to take an early match lead 2-1 over the Buena Vista University Beavers before losing the match 3-6. Stephanie LoCasto and Marissa Rutenbeck at #2 doubles won 9-7 after being down early in the match. Alexandra Dixon and Janine Wegner captured #3 doubles 8-2.
The #2 singles of Ashley Schlueter would push her opponent to a third set and lose the battle 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. Janine Wegner at #5 singles would also fight back to a third set before losing 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
The Spartans lone win in sigles action was Stephanie LoCasto at #3 singles where she captured the victory 6-0, 6-0.
UD will travel to continue Iowa Conference play at Luther on Sept. 17 before returning home to meet Loras College on Sept. 25.
