Spartans Lose Conference Opener

Sep 18, 2013

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team was hoping for a fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday evening in front of a large crowd in Stoltz Sports Center, but the Loras Duhawks captured the Iowa Conference opener for both teams by a 3-0 score (25-23, 25-19, 26-24).

The boisterous crowd, attired in white for the Spartan faithful, kept the energy throughout the three set match. All three sets of the match would swap leads  multiple times, but it was the Duhawks which grabbed a point when they most needed one. The Spartans Klaudia Basierak led with 10 kills. Hannah Zeiser finished with 23 set assists and an ace. Zeiser and teammate Morgan Werkheiser would combine for 25 digs in the loss. Kristin Henderson finished with five block assists.

The Spartans will travel to face the Buena Vista University Beavers on Sept. 24 in Storm Lake and will continue the road schedule at the IIAC/NACC Challenge in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. on Sept.27-28. The Spartans return home on Oct. 1 to host the Central College Dutch at 7:30 p.m.
