Men's Soccer Loses One Goal Game

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA - The University of Dubuque Men's Soccer team once again found itself in another tight game on Tuesday night. The Spartans 2-1 loss to Macalester was the third straight one goal loss for UD. Five of the six UD losses this season have come by one goal. Dubuque is now 1-6-1 on the year. 

The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute of the game on an Abraham Gonzalez (Santa Paula, Calif./Santa Paula) goal where he was able to beat the keeper by scoring just inside the far post. Cory Winkler (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) assisted on the goal with a cross from the corner. 

UD would lead for the next 70 minutes until Macalester was able to get a shot past the Spartan defense. Macalester would follow its goal in the 83rd minute with the eventual game winner less than four minutes later at the 87:07 mark. Dubuque held Macalester to one shot in the first half. 

Jose Resendiz (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) had four saves and two goals allowed in the loss. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans begin the first of three straight Iowa Conference games in eight days with #5 Loras College (6-0-2) on Saturday, September 28th. Game time at Oyen Field is 3:30 pm.
