Sieverding Chosen for Iowa High School Athletics Hall of Fame

DUBUQUE, IOWA – University of Dubuque Men’s Basketball Head Coach Robbie Sieverding was announced as one of the newest members of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Sieverding prepped at Bellevue Marquette High School before staring at the University of Northern Iowa. Induction ceremonies will be held on March 15th during the state tournament.
Sieverding joined the University of Dubuque in 2003-04 as an assistant coach before being named the head coach in 2007. Since taking over the program, UD has won over 100 games and qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament all six years. The Spartans won the 2013 IIAC Tournament Championship to earn a berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament while also setting a school record with 22 wins during the 2012-13 season. Under Sieverding’s guidance a Spartan guard has been named First Team All-IIAC for seven straight years.
As a prep, Sieverding burst onto the high school basketball scene with 810 points, the 16th highest single season total in Iowa High School Basketball history. His 62 point game against Olin currently ranks as the 16th highest single game total in Iowa history. He graduated from Marquette with a school record 1,957 points, the 42nd highest total in Iowa history. Sieverding was named the Telegraph Herald Player of the Year in 1997. His 159 career three-points is also a school record.
At UNI, Sieverding was named First Team All-Missouri Valley in 2002 and Second Team All-MVC in 2000. He still holds the school record with seven three-pointers in a game. His 1,402 career points currently ranks eighth All-Time at UNI. Sieverding also ranks 10th all-time in assists (265), third in free throw percentage (.836), fourth in free throws made (423), and sixth in three-pointers made (157), all in just three years as a Panther.
Joining Sieverding as 2014 Hall of Fame inductees are Lloyd Thornburg (Pleasantville, 1968), Mark West (Southeast Polk, 1977), Jeff Donaldson (Sioux City North, 1983), and Jeff Horner (Mason City, 2002). Coaches Bob Haak (Spencer) and Steve Blazek will also be a part of the 2014 class. Sieverding joins his high school coach, Jim Squiers in the Hall of Fame.
UD opens the 2013-14 season on Friday, November 1st in an exhibition game at the University of Northern Iowa.
