BOX SCORE

DECORAH, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team went on the road for the first time this year since Iowa Conference play began. The Spartans were unable to get the offense going in the 2-0 loss to Luther College, who is undefeated in the IIAC. UD and Luther were tied at 0-0 at halftime. The sixth ranked regionally Spartans are 8-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the IIAC.

The scoreless first half for both teams was the result of two teams stepping up on the defensive side of the field. UD had five corner kicks in the first 14 minutes of action but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunities.  The Spartans defense stopped both shots on goal and a total ten shots in the scoreless period.

The offenses picked up in the second half with Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) each recording shots on goal for the Spartans. Luther broke the scoreless game with a header off a corner kick in the 60th minute.

Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) finished with three saves and two goals allowed.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will face former Iowa Conference foe Cornell College (5-6) on Wednesday, October 9th. Game time in Mt. Vernon is 4:30 pm.
