Spartans Win 50th IIAC Game

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team won the 50th Iowa Conference Regular Season game in the programs history on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans used two second half goals, scored less than 20 seconds apart, to pull away from Coe College (3-9-1, 0-4) for a 3-1 victory. Midfielder Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) assisted on all three UD goals. Dubuque improved its record to 10-3-0 and 2-2 in Iowa Conference play. 

The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the game on a goal by Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) in the fifth minute of action. The goal by Watkins was her team high 11th of the year and fifth goal in the last six games. 

After a Coe goal late in the period, the teams would go to half tied at 1-1. UD held a 11-2 lead in shots and 5-0 advantage in Corner Kicks. 

The second half was all Spartans with Megan Siepler (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) scoring two goals within 18 seconds. The goals were numbers six and seven on the season for Siepler. It was the third multi-goal game of the year for the junior forward. Lynn assisted on both goals to give her three assists in the game, her second three assist game of the year. 

UD held Coe without a shot on goal in the second half while also holding a 17-2 advantage in shots. 

Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) earned the win in goal with one save. 

Siepler led the UD attack with eight shots including five on goal. Watkins finished with five shots and two shots on goal. UD held a 28-4 advantage in shots for the game. 

The sixth ranked regionally Spartans are 4-2 on the road and 6-1 at home. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans will wrap up a five game road stand as they step out of conference action to take on UW-Platteville (6-6-1) on October 16th. Game time at UW-P is 7:00 pm.
