CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College volleyball player Rachel Schaefer and Simpson College football player Taylor Nelson have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 13, 2013. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in six fall sports — football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's cross country.
University of Dubuque junior Tiffany Duncan (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) was named IIAC Women’s Soccer (Defensive) Performer of the Week. Duncan is the first Spartan to win Defensive Performer of the Week this season and joins Alexandra Watkins (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and Katie Lynn (Fox River Grove, Ill./Barrington) as overall winners this season. Duncan recorded four saves in the Spartans 2-0 shutout against Cornell. She won her 10th game of the year against Coe in which she had one save in the 2-1 victory.
Duncan is currently second in the Iowa Conference in goals against average (1.08), save percentage (.774), and shutouts (3). Her 10-wins this year are the fourth highest single season total in UD history. Duncan has played 1170:11 of a possible 1181:24 minutes in goal this season. The sixth ranked regionally Spartans win at Coe was the 50th regular season conference win for the UD Women’s Soccer program.
