Spartans Bitten by Kohawks on the Road

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped a league match on Wednesday evening to the host Coe College Kohawks by a 0-3 score. Set scores were 19-25, 21-25, 16-25. Despite the loss for the Spartans, they remain battling for the final qualifying spot for the IIAC Tournament. The Spartans are in a three-way tie for the final spot with Buena Vista University and Central College with 1-4 IIAC records. The victory for the Kohawks helped them clinch an Iowa Conference Tournament berth where they are unbeaten in conference play and are tied at the top of the conference standings with Wartburg at 5-0. The Kohawks have lost just three matches this fall (27-3 overall).

Klaudia Basierak led the Spartans offense with 11 kills. Hannah Zieser's 15 set assists led the Spartans. Meggie Schmidt led the Spartan defense with 14 digs followed by Kristin Wright's 13, Basierak's 12, and Olivia Larson who had 11 digs in the loss. The Spartans suffered 18 receiving errors which helped the Kohawks capture the two first close sets.

This weekend the Spartans will play at UW-Platteville in a triangular with UW-P and UW-La Crosse before hosting their final conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 22 Vs. Wartburg.
