Spartans Sweep on Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball team swept past the Aurora University Spartans on Senior Night on Friday by a 3-0 match score. The Spartans set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-21.
Klaudia Basierak led the Spartans with 14 kills and 12 digs. Meggie Schmidt had 20 set assists and 10 digs as teammate and the Spartans lone senior, Morgan Werkheiser (DS/L, Stockton, Ill.), grabbed nine digs. UD was on fire at the service line finishing the evening with nine service aces. Kristin Wright led with three trailed by Schmidt, Olivia Larson, and Basierak who each had two aces in the victory.
The Spartans will compete in the IIAC Junior Varsity tournament on Nov. 2 hosted by Wartburg College. UD (#5-seed) will travel to Decorah on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the 2013 IIAC Volleyball Tournament First Round match-up against the #4-seeded Luther Norse. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
