DES MOINES, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team faced a tough challenege on Friday night on the road at Division I Drake University. The Spartans were unable to slow the Bulldog offense in the 98-59 defeat. Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and Jenna Kotas (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) led Dubuque on offense with 15 points each. UD is coming off a 2012-13 season in which they won a school record 20 games and advanced to the finals of the Iowa Conference Tournament. 

The Spartans starting five of Goetz, Kotas, Emily Brinker (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo), Daneshia Snitker (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon), and Kayla Springer (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) combined for 47 of the teams 59 points. Snitker led the Spartans with nine rebounds (3-offensive/6-defensive) while also scoring seven points in her first collegiate game. 

Dubuque used the three ball to pull within eight points near the midpoint of the first half with a 9-3 run in 67 seconds. Kotas hit two three-pointers and Goetz made one to fuel the run. Kotas finished the game 3-9 from beyond the arc. UD trailed 47-29 at the half.

Brittany Collier (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) came off the bench to score five points in 19 minutes of action. All 17 Spartans who dressed for the game played at least one minute. 

UD forced 14 turnovers in the contest leading to eight steals. Kotas was the only Spartan with multiple steals with two. 

Morgan Reid of Drake led all scorers with 17 points as five Bulldogs scored in double figures. Preseason All-Misouri Valley pick Kyndal Clark scored 16 points. Drake was picked to finish fourth in the MVC Preseason Poll. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans return to the court on Saturday, November 16th at the Edgewood College Tipoff Classic. UD opens the tournament with UW-Platteville at 5:00 pm. Dubuque finishes the weekend with Edgewood on November 17th at 4:30 pm.
