Spartans Seventh at IIAC Championships

PELLA, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Cross Country team finished in seventh place at the 2013 Iowa Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Central College. The Spartans top finisher on the 6,000 meter course was Fabiola Ortiz (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) in 30th place overall at 24:43.2. A total of 120 runners competed on Saturday morning at the Central College Cross Country Course. UD will now begin preparing for the NCAA DIII Central Regional at St. Olaf College on November 16th. 

Wartburg won its third straight women's title and fifth in the last six years. Tricia Serres of Luther was the Individual Women's Champion.

Brenda Nava (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) continued her consistent running during her junior campaign with a time of 24:51.1 and 34th place. In six races this season, Nava has been between 24:35.7 and 25:31.5 in each of them. Fellow junior Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski) was the third Spartan finisher with a time of 25:09.7 in 43rd place. Busjahn cut 1:35.3 off her time from the 2012 IIAC Championships. 

Sam Holen (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) and Kiersten Wenthold (Fort Atkinson, Iowa/South Winn) took 89th and 90th respectively as the Spartans final two scorers.
