Basierak Voted First Team Academic All-District

DUBUQUE, IOWA – University of Dubuque sophomore Klaudia Basierak (Hainesville, Ill./Grayslake) has been named to the First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District (District #8) Volleyball team. To be selected a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher and be a sophomore or above.

Basierak is a sophomore, Elementary Education major with a 4.0 GPA. She finished the 2013 season with a team high 366 kills, 1234 attack attempts and 14 double-doubles (Kills-Digs). Her 25 kills in the Spartans regular season finale victory at Simpson, which earned UD a spot in the Iowa Conference Tournament, are tied for the highest single match kill total in the IIAC this season. Basierak also set a school record in the Simpson match with 80 total attacks. She is the seventh Dubuque Volleyball student-athlete to be named All-District and first since 2006.

During the 2013 season Basierak has been named all-tournament at the Beloit College - Buc Blast and the Millikin College - Slagell “Dig for a Cure” Classic. She finished the year second in the conference with 95 kills in IIAC only games and second overall with 366 kills. Nationally, she ranks 84th in NCAA Division III with 3.45 kills per set.

In 2012, Basierak was named Iowa Conference Freshman of the Year and First Team All-IIAC after leading the league with 526 kills, 3.95 kills per set, and 595 points scored.

UD finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 12-21 and qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament for the third straight year.

District 8 consists of Division III Universities/Colleges from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Canada.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic Team ballot, where first, second, and third team All-American honorees will be announced on December 10th.
