Spartans Tie School Record with 110 Points

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Basketball team tied the school record for points in a game as 15 Spartans scored in the contest. UD pushed the tempo early and did not look back as they beat Bethany Lutheran 110-81 on Saturday afternoon inside the Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans were led offensively by Jenna Kotas (Tinely Park, Ill./Andrew) with 21 points, including 19 in the first half. Dubuque improved to 2-1 on the year. 

Kotas finished the game shooting 6-10 from the field including 3-5 from three point range and 6-6 from the free throw line. She had a huge opening half with 19 points in only 12 minutes in the first half. Kotas also had a team high four steals in the game. 

The Spartans took control of the game for good after a Bethany Lutheran three at the 15:03 mark cut the UD lead to three at 15-12. Dubuque responded with a 10-3 run over the next five minutes with the second unit on the floor. The run started with a layup by Jennifer Fischer (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) before Adrianna Stephens (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) made a three-pointer and layup in transition after UD steals. Another fast break layup by Fischer and a three by Kayla Springer (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) capped the run. Springer finished the game with 15 points and four rebounds. 

UD closed the first half on a 10-3 run over the last 2:25 as the Spartans led 61-37 at the break. Dubuque forced 17 first half turnovers in which they converted into 22 points. The Spartans held a 22-6 advantage in points off turnovers. 

Freshman Daneshia Snitker (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon) led the Spartans on the boards with six rebounds. She also scored eight points on 4-5 shooting from the field. Dubuque held a 52-34 advantage in rebounds for the game. Fellow freshman starter Emily Brinker (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) reached double figures for the second straight game with 14 points. 

Point guard Brittany Collier (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) led the Spartans with seven assists as UD broke the school record for assists in a game with 27 team assists. 

UD led by at least 26 points the entire second half with it's lead peaking at 40 points after a Meggie Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) three-pointer at the 13:49 mark. Schmidt filled up the box score with seven points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists in only 14 minutes of action. 

The Spartans second unit of Fischer, Schmidt, Stephens, Heather Chapman (Ingleside, Ill./Grant), and Jessica Goetz (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) finished with 35 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and nine steals. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans hit the road before Thanksgiving break when they travel to Carlinville, Ill. on November 26th to play Blackburn College. Game time is 6:00 pm.
