Spartans Cruise to 93-57 Victory

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men’s basketball team cruised to a 93-57 victory over the North Central University Rams (Minn.) Friday night on Jon Davison Court. The Spartans jumped out to a 52-30 halftime lead highlighted by a Andre Norris breakaway dunk which awoke the crowd to its loudest roar of the night. UD’s largest lead was 38 points midway through the second half as 16 Spartans finished the evening in the scoring column.

Norris led in scoring with 16 points in just 17 minutes of action. Gage Heffernan and Chris Frazier both scored 12 points and Mitch Michaelis had 11 points. The Spartans bench outscored the Rams 40-26 and dominated the paint 26-8. UD ended the night sinking 31-65 attempts from the field (47.7%), 12-20 from the three point area (60%), and 19-37 at the free throw line. UD’s defense forced the visitors into committing 23 turnovers in the loss.

UD is averaging over 86 points a game and nearly 50% from the field this season. Five Spartans are averaging in double digits through seven games. Norris leads with 17.0 ppg, Chris Frazier 14.6 ppg, Mitch Michaelis 12.3 ppg, Gage Heffernan 12.1 ppg, and Brandon Ferguson 10.3 ppg.

The 7-0 Spartans will host the AIB Eagles  (0-10 overall) on Thursday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m. After a short break for Christmas, the Spartans will host the University of Dubuque Jon Davison Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30-31. Schools participating include: UD, Clarke University, Rockford University and St. Francis (Ill.)
