Spartans Battle #8-Ranked Kohawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque wrestling team wrestled #8-ranked Coe College in front of a loud crowd in McCormick Gymnasium on Saturday. The Spartans captured two matches as the Kohawks won eight en route to a 31-9 victory. The final score doesn't represent the wrestling on the mat as UD lost four matches by four points or less.
The Spartans Nick Drendel captured UD's first win of the day at 149 lbs after collecting the fall in 2:40 over Coe's Tim Noverini. Joseph Kubica earned an upset win over #10-ranked Farai Sewera by a 3-1 decision. Nicholas Rivera lost a tight match 4-8 at 125 lbs. as Kody Krenz (133 lbs.) nearly captured an upset of top-ranked Jimmy Gotto of Coe (#2-ranked), but lost 3-4. Brian Travis (#8-ranked) was left frustrated at 141 lbs. as he was held scoreless in the 0-3 loss. Coe's Creighton Fox garnered a late takedown to take the 285 lbs. weight class over the Spartans Dan Howell 4-2.
The Spartans will take a break for Christmas before returning to action on January 4 at the University of Chicago Duals. January 11-12 the Spartans will compete in the NWCA Cliff Keen Duals in Des Moines before retuning home to face UW-Whitewater in a dual on January 16 at 7:00 p.m.
