Spartans Win Re-match of Last Season's IIAC Tournament Final

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball IIAC opener lived up to what everyone was anticipating. The last time the Spartans and Knights played was in the 2013 IIAC Tournament Championship. Tonight's contest lived up to the billing with both teams largest lead being by six points or less. The pair of teams swapped the lead 18 times and the game was tied another 10 teams before the Spartans won 67-63. UD moved to 12-0 overall and 1-0 in IIAC action.

Andre Norris led all scorers with 25 points including 6-7 at the free throw line, and a pair of spectacular dunks. Mitch Michaelis finished with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Gage Heffernan also collected eight rebounds. The Knights out rebounded UD 42-39 and led in second chance points 11-8.

The Spartans scored 28 points in the paint and added 13 points off the 14 Knights turnovers. UD's defense held the Knights to under 40% shooting from the field as the visitors struggled at the free throw line making just 8-14 attempts (57.1%).

UD will travel to Central College (8-4 overall, 1-0 in IIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 11 before returning home to face Luther College (8-4 overall, 0-1 in IIAC) on Jan. 15 and Buena Vista University (6-6 overall, 1-0 in IIAC) on Jan. 18.
