University of Dubuque Theological Seminary Announces Online Continuing Education for Clergy

This spring, the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary will offer two online continuing education courses – Preaching John for Lent and Easter, and Epic of Epics: The Gospel in Classic Rock.
The first, Preaching John for Lent and Easter, will be taught by Dr. Lyle VanderBroek, professor of New Testament. This course, which begins February 3, will examine lectionary readings from the Gospel of John for select Sundays/Holy Days during Lent and Easter, Cycle A. It will focus on key interpretive issues (i.e. literary and historical contexts) and especially theological themes in the texts as they are helpful for preaching.
The second, Epic of Epics: The Gospel in Classic Rock,will be taught by Dr. Timothy Slemmons, assistant professor of homiletics and worship. This course, which begins March 10, will investigate the positive use of the biblical narrative in the lyrics of a select cadre of rock musicians (such as Peter Gabriel, U2, Bob Dylan, and Van Morrison). The aim of the course is to analyze the overarching biblical narrative of redemption used by those whose music has taken root and thrived within the secular culture.
These five-week courses, which cost just $150 each, are designed to inspire, engage, and sustain a lifetime of ministry and mission.
