Breimon and Herbig Set School Records at Sol Butler Classic

RESULTS: 2014 Sol Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Women's Track and Field team set a pair of school records at the 2014 Sol Butler Classic. The Spartans also picked up an individual win and relay victory on Saturday on the A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track inside Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center. The UD women finished third of six teams.

Each of the Spartans school records that fell at the Sol Butler Classic were set in field events with Brenda Breimon (Oconomowoc, Wis./Slinger) and Katelyn Herbig (Aurora, Ill./Aurora Central) each besting their own school records from 2013. Herbig's record setting performance of 14.62m in the Weight Throw was good for a fourth place finish. Breimon also finished in fourth place with a final clearing heigth of 3.15m in the Pole Vault. 

Sophomore Taylor Cary (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) ran away from the field in each of her races in the 55m Hurdles, posting the fastest qualifying time at 8.80 seconds. Cary cut 0.10 seconds off her prelim time in the finals with a winning time of 8.70 seconds, the third fastest time in school history.  Jennifer Pohlman (West Branch, Iowa/West Branch) also qualified for the 55m Hurdles finals. 

UD finished the day strong with a first place finish in the 4x400m Relay, the final race of the meet. The Spartans team of Rachael Busjahn (Sobieski, Wis./Pulaski), Brittany Burns (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial), Tieisha Starks (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), and Amanda Zbilski (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) ran a time of 4:14.08 for the victory. The Dubuque 4x200m Relay team of Starks, Busjahn, Pohlman, and Cary finished second at 1:49.63. 

The Spartans sprinters also put together strong performances individually with Starks taking third in the 55m Dash at 7.57 seconds. UD went 3-4 in the 200m Dash with Chantel Christiansen (Anamosa, Iowa/Anamose) taking third and Brittany Becker (Waterloo, Iowa/Waterloo East) finishing in fourth place.

UP NEXT: UD will be at the Monmouth Midwest Individual on Saturday, January 25th. Select Spartans will also be traveling to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday January 24th to compete at the site of the 2014 NCAA Division-III Indoor Championships.
