Zurbuchen Wins 55m Hurdles at Sol Butler Classic

RESULTS: 2014 Sol Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Track and Field team put together a strong performance in the field events with 43 total points coming in the six field events. Senior Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) won the 55m Hurdles for the lone UD men's victory. The Dubuque men finished in fourth place of six teams with 85 points.

Zurbuchen dominated the 55m Hurdles posting the two fastest times of the day. In the preliminaries, he ran a time of 8.01 seconds to qualify first. The senior captain posted a time of 8.04 seconds to coast to victory in the finals. Austin Houzenga (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) qualified for the finals with the second fastest prelims time at 8.23 seconds but took sixth in the finals. Sprinter Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) finished third in the 55m Dash (6.50 seconds) and 200m Dash (23.32 seconds). 

UD scored 14 points in the High Jump placing four individuals in the top six. Freshman Jeremy Lawson (Lake Isabella, Calif./Kern Valley) led the Spartans with a second place finish at 1.95m, tying him for third all-time at UD in the event. 

Kebba Bojang (Madison, Wis./Madison East) was second in the Triple Jump at 13.63m. UD placed two vaulters in the top six of the Pole Vault with Alexander Schlueter (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) taking second place and Nicholas Kazmierczak (Lodi, Wis./Lodi) getting sixth, both Spartans had a final heigth of 4.00m.

UP NEXT: UD will be at the Monmouth Midwest Individual on Saturday, January 25th. Select Spartans will also be traveling to the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Friday January 24th to compete at the site of the 2014 NCAA Division-III Indoor Championships.
