DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball fans showed up in full force on Wednesday evening as KCRG 9.2 were on hand to showcase the game live in the tri-states. The near capacity crowd witnessed a very exciting NCAA Division III contest with the Spartans taking the win 76-66 over the Simpson College Storm.

The Storm (3-15 overall, 1-6 in IIAC) certainly provided the host Spartans all the challenges of a top-ranked conference team, not one that has just one IIAC victory. Simpson led for the opening minutes of action before the host Spartans made a late opening half run to stretch to a six point lead 34-28.

The lead swapped six times and was tied six times with the Storm's largest lead being five points and the Spartans largest lead being 11 points with 5:55 to go in the contest.

The Spartan bench was out scored by the Storm bench 20-10, but it was the Spartans who dominated in the paint scoring 32 points and adding another 17 points off the 19 Storm turnovers.

UD's offense was led by Gage Heffernan who finished with a game high 23 points and 15 rebounds (including 10 defensive boards). Andre Norris finished with 22 points and five assists. Chris Frazier was held to just one three pointer, but finished with 11 points and four steals.

The Spartans sank 28-59 attempts from the field (47.5%), 3-9 from the three point area (33.3%), and 17-23 at the charity stripe (73.9%).

UD improved to 17-1 overall and 6-1 in IIAC. The Spartans still hold a one game lead in the IIAC after finishing the first half of league play on Wednesday and will host Coe College (9-9 overall, 1-6 in IIAC) on Saturday, Feb. 1.
