DUBUQUE, Iowa - A team with just one loss on the season enters every contest with a large target on its' back, the University of Dubuque men's basketball team has been that target in 2013-14. Saturday night was no different, the Coe College Kohawks threw everything they had and fell short as the Spartans captured the contest 71-65.

Coe took their last lead in the second half at the 12:50 mark as the Spartans pushed to an eight point margin a couple of times before the Kohawk bench would bring them within striking distance multiple times in the final minutes. Coe trailed 63-65 at the :30 second mark before the Spartans sank their free throw attempts to extend their lead and capture their 18th win of the season (18-1 overall, 7-1 in IIAC).

Gage Heffernan led with 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but it was the Spartans Andre Norris who finished with the games only double-double as he scored 19 points and collected 11 rebounds and three blocks. Just seven Spartans scored in the game as the Kohawk bench finished with 18 points.

The Spartans will take their one game Iowa Conference lead on the road next week when they travel on February 5th to Waverly to face the Wartburg College Knights (10-9 overall, 4-4 in IIAC). On January 8th the Spartans squeaked out a slim four point victory 67-63 on Jon Davison Court. UD will continue their road schedule on February 8 in Indianola Vs. the Simpson College Storm who the Spartans beat in a televised "Live" game on KCRG by a 76-66 score.
