Valcin Wins Pole Vault for 4th Time

RESULTS: 2014 Grinnell Invite

GRINNELL, IOWA - The University of Dubuque Men's Track & Field team won three events at the Grinnell College Invitational on Saturday. UD won the pole vault, high jump, and 4x200m Relay. Rick Valcin (Catries, St. Lucia/Gros Islet) won the pole vault for the fourth time in five meets this season. The Spartans finished in second place as a team with 87 points. 

Valcin led UD in the field events with ten points coming from his winning performance in the pole vault at 4.88m (16' 0.25") and five points in the long jump with a fourth place finish at 6.24m (20' 5"). Antwone Lindsey (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) picked up the second victory for the Spartans in the field events with a jump of 1.99m (6' 6.25") in the high jump, good for the 33rd best jump in Division-III and third all-time at UD. Payton Nevills (Savanna, Ill./West Carroll) ran a personal best time of 9:19.41 in the 3000m Run to move into fourth all-time at UD.

The Spartans 4x200m Relay team of Valcin, Kyle Williams (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom), Ryan Mattingly (Janesville, Iowa/Janesville), and Andy Sierra (Fruitland, Iowa/Louisa-Muscatine) ran away from the field with a winning time of 1:31.84. Mattingly, Sierra, Williams, and Austin Houzenga (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) teamed up in the 4x400m Relay to finish second at 3:34.51. Individually, Williams finished fourth in the 60m Dash at 7.14 seconds. Former UD All-Americans Phillip Jones and Davivorn Dowe went 1-2 in the 60m Dash. 

Evan Zurbuchen (Hollandale, Wis./Madison West) continued his strong senior season with a third place performance in the 60m Hurdles at 8.45 seconds. Houzenga also qualified for the finals in the 60m Hurdles.
